The new Aston Martin Rapide S four-door sports car will be unveiled for the first time in North America at the 2013 New York International Auto Show slated to start on March 27, 2013. The Rapide S will be joined by the new Aston Martin Vanquish and DB9. Aston Martin first unveiled the Rapide S at the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show earlier this month, tagging the New York show as the four-door sports car’s platform for its first customer deliveries in June.

Aston Martin redesigned and reengineered the Rapide S to reassert the vehicle’s position as the most beautiful and elegantly balanced, four-seat sports car in the world.

The carmaker endowed the new Rapide S with extensive design and engineering improvements to make it more desirable and refined. The luxury sports car now dons a more assertive ‘face’ thanks to a new full grille. The new front end design is complemented at the back by a new rear deck profile that includes a more pronounced boot lid ‘flip.’ The enhancements in aerodynamic and aesthetic both boost the sporting nature of the Rapide S.

The Aston Martin Rapide S is powered by the new AM11 naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 engine that provides more output and torque. The AM11 V12 could provide output up to 550bhp at 6,750rpm, compared to the previous engine’s 470bhp at 6,000rpm. The AM11 V12 could also provide a torque of 457 lb.ft (620Nm) at 5,500rpm, compared to the previous engine’s 43lb.ft (600Nm).

The engine also boasts of improved torque lower down the rev range, as it provides over 30lb.ft (40Nm) in pulling power between idle and 4,000rpm; with an additional 37lb.ft (50Nm) available at 2,500rpm. The increases in power and torque allows the new Rapide S to shave 0.4 seconds off its 0-60 mph acceleration time to just 4.7 seconds and to eventually reach a top speed of 190 mph. The new Rapide S is now available at US$199,950 (CAD $210,500).
