GM unveils new look of 2013 Buick Enclave at New York Auto Show

Article by Anita Panait, on April 5, 2012

General Motors has unveiled a revised 2013 Buick Enclave to build on the success of the crossover.  The 2013 Buick Enclave features a new hood and black chrome waterfall grille, highlighted by a new headlamp design and LED daytime running lamps. The rear end of the car features integrated exhaust outlets and LED taillights.

GM also made sure that the crossover’s interior gets a new treatment. The 2013 Buick Enclave sports ice-blue LED lighting around the dash, more chrome and stitching, and a new center stack that integrates the IntelliLink infotainment system. The new IntelliLink infotainment system will come as standard on the 2013 Enclave after it was introduced on several models in recent months.

The 2013 Enclave also features the industry's first use of a front-center airbag, which deploys between the front seats to protect passengers in far-side impact crashes.GM will also install the technology for the 2013 model year on three full-sized crossovers: the Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse.

According to Tony DiSalle, Buick's vice president of marketing, the company purposively enhanced the vehicle’s look inside and outside and updated its technologies to make it a good fit for luxury crossover owners.

The Enclave is credited with reviving the Buick brand from being on the brink of a collapse. The model was launched in 2007 for the 2008 model year, and continued on to become the brand’s second best-seller after the LaCrosse sedan.

Enclave was also credited for attracting buyers to switch from non-GM brands. In 2011, GM sold 58,392 Enclaves for a five-percent jump – around 50% of the buyers were conquest customers, according to the company. The 2013 Buick Enclave is currently being shown at the New York Auto Show.

Interior Design

Inside the 2013 Enclave is a host of luxurious amenities that clearly were made from premium materials. The different changes result in a more modern atmosphere for the interior plus having the Buick IntelliLink integrated to it. To make sure that it becomes easier to manage the IntelliLink system, the center stack was redesigned to allow for intuitive and easy interaction. Meanwhile, redundant controls have been placed on the steering wheel and its real Mahogany-accent.

The brand also made sure to make the controls of the tri-zone climate system become more intuitive with operation made easier. This is aided by the bold digital readouts, now digital, and with controls now larger, makes operation simpler even when wearing gloves. Additional new features in the 2013 Enclave include details like the use inside the cabin of soft touch materials and live stitching. Chrome accents can be seen as well.

As mentioned earlier, the center stack is new and includes the display for the IntelliLink LCD, navigation system, capacitive touch controls, and tri-zone climate system. Ensuring comfort is the eight-way power seat not only for the driver but also for the passenger in the front.

These seats even allow the head restraints to have four-way adjustability. On its dashboard, one can see the ambient lighting in ice blue which helps underscore the flowing lines and therefore puts focus on the amount of space the interior can offer. For the interior, there are is a total of four color combinations, all of which are able to complement the wood tones.

There is even a Cocoa leather combination. Creative designer, color and trim, for Buick Ven Lai shared that while the Enclave already has a sense of fashion, this is highlighted by the new color combinations being offered and the rich saturated tones. These new features are, he added, a result of the lifestyles of many of the brand’s customers.

A good example of this is the Cocoa color. According to Lai, this color was made with the Enclave in mind in order to provide a higher level of visual warmth and balanced with how soft the Nuance sandstone leather feels. The latter in particular is a material whose qualities are similar to leather that is typically used in furnishings one has at home. As a result, he continued, daily drives, or even long trips, continue to be rewarding and comfortable.
