New York Auto Show: Honda Element Dog Friendly Concept

It was announced by American Honda Motor Co., Inc. at the New York Auto Show that they are coming out with their latest dog-friendly transportation concepts intended for the Honda Element add canine-specific improvements to one of the most dog-friendly vehicles offered on the market today.

The Dog Friendly components, which were designed particularly for the Element, exhibit the potential for a dedicated pet restraint system intended to meet dog owners' requirements.

Final model of the Dog Friendly Element is set to be introduced this coming fall. The elements consist of a cushioned bed for the pet, restraint systems and other elements designed to transform the Element into the ultimate car for dogs. The equipment that comes with the Dog Friendly Elements were designed to accommodate dog transport with the use of either the second-row passenger seats or the cargo space.

Takata Corporation, the leading automotive safety systems provider in the world, designed the restraint system concepts exclusively for the Dog Friendly Honda Element. The Takata restraint concepts are designed to support the potential of the car's current restraint system by assisting in the protection of the pet and to prevent injuries to the human occupants due to unrestrained dog impacting them in collision cases.

A ramp, which is stored under the bed platform and can be comfortably accessed when the rear tailgate is down, is added for convenience, to assist the dog access the cargo area at the rear.

The Honda Element has been considerably modified for the 2009 model year and come with new features, building on its spacious and adaptable SUV traits with an exterior that appears more chiseled and a new interior styling. There are three special styles that are offered for the Element ranging from the rugged and simple Element LX to the more elegant Element EX, to the sporty Element SC.

Power under the hood comes from a 2.4 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder powerplant, and it comes with either a 5-sped manual transmission, which is standard, or 5-speed automatic as an option. The Element comes with Real Time 4WD to enhance all-weather traction.

The interior compartment accommodates up to four adults together with a cargo area that can accommodate large items with its rear seats that can be folded flat, or up and to the side, or which can be totally removed a 64-plus seating configuration. The EX has a water resistant urethane-coated utility floor that is easy to clean and moisture resistant seat fabric.
