Next Acura-Honda NSX will be less extreme than the original

Plans for a new Acura NSX sports car have been shelved. Built all through the 1990s, the low-slung, mid-engined, quasi-exotic sports car had been expected to have a front-engined GT version with extreme styling in its next iteration. John Watts, Acura's senior manager of product development, said that the prospect of another Acura sports car could still be realized. However, when it does get picked up once again, expect it to be scaled down. Watts said that the NSX was too high a halo and for it to be fully effective, it couldn't be too far removed from Acura other products. The implication is that a new Acura sports car would be less expensive and would probably be derived from a current product platform. Nissan would be pleased since its GT-R would be facing one less fierce competitor.
