Next Ferrari limited-edition supercar will be the cornerstone, says Montezemolo

Ferrari Enzo

Ferrari S.p.A. Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo denied the fact that he might join Italy's government and said that his future is related to the supercar brand. “In my future I see fast cars and fast trains – and no politics,” said Montezemolo in an interview. Montezemolo also added that he wants to assure a bright future and said that the next limited-edition supercar from Ferrari (the successor of the F40, F50 and Enzo) will be cornerstone. The model is due in 2012.

That car will incorporate the state of the art of our knowledge in terms of increasing performances while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. It will then influence all Ferraris that appear after it,” said Montezemolo.

The new supercar is expected to carry the new gasoline-hybrid technology the company unveiled in March at the Geneva Motor Show, on the Ferrari HY-KERS Vettura Laboratorio aka. 599 GTB Hybrid. The technology is derived from the kinetic energy recovery system Ferrari used in Formula 1 in the past season, which cuts emissions by 35 percent.

The HY-KERS vettura laboratorio (experimental vehicle) carried an electric motor delivering more than 100 hp. The new car could deliver a total output of over 700 hp, because the car is expected to have a powerful V12 engine which will deliver more than 600 hp. [via autonews - sub. required]
