Next-generation Bmw M5 to be lighter, more powerful and with KERS

ement yet with regards to the next generation BMW (F10) M5 but from various sources, we’ve pieced together this description. The engine has been reported to be similar to the twin turbo V8 in the X5 and X6 M SAVs.
Output is expected to go up to as high as 570 bhp with a torque of more than 500ft lbs compared to the current E60 M5 due to those two turbos. BMW seemed to have exerted much effort to make the F10 M5 have more usable power not much different from the E39 M5. Aside from the turbos, the M engineers have also created an engine that is more about everyday power. Continued after the jump!
With regards to reports on the softening of the M brand, we heard that the M Division is taking care of that issue by making revisions to the F10. BMW aims to reduce its weight by using carbonfiber for some body panels and introducing an optional carbon fiber roof. It had also been reported that M wants to recreate the entire platform in aluminum to radically reduce the weight of the structure. It is also alleged that the E60 M5 CSL one-off was a proof of concept engineering test mule that assisted engineers to vet out much of these ideas.
Have you heard about the rumor about a KERS system that debuted in this years BMW F1 race car? Reports are unconfirmed but according to sources, KERS has given technical insight into how the system will work. Allegedly, there is a brake energy regeneration system with an electric motor located in the car‚ transmission. An F1 like switch releases stored energy, allowing for extra bursts power for a short time period. This seems to be similar to the MINI Cooper S, JCW, and the Z4 35 that can have a short burst of extra torque available at full acceleration. But then again, nothing has been confirmed so it could be possible that reports saying that we should expect something more noticeable and immediate with KERS could be true.
