Next-generation Ford F-150 to cut 700 pounds by using aluminum

2013 Ford F-150 Limited

Ford’s next-generation F-150 pickup truck may be lighter by 700lbs as its engineers are mulling an idea on how to overhaul this popular model. The next-generation model would have to comply with more stringent fuel-economy standards. Being lighter by 700lbs means that it is almost 15% lighter than the existing model, which may be successful at boosting fuel efficiency. As the model is now lighter, Ford could then make use of an engine that’s smaller, more fuel-efficient to power the pickup, raising their fuel figures even harder, according to Wall Street Journal. With this model, Ford intends to prove that the most popular pickup may offer the doors so that it could become convinced to get better mpg numbers and a design that’s more stylish. Ford abides in ‘Built Tough’ image. Reducing the weight may mean that the truck is less durable. Ford said that it may soon release a smaller, lighter F-100 truck. However, it has become apparent that it hopes to stick to the F-150 model. The company hopes to discover a way so that it’s more fuel friendly but will remain durable.
