A twin-turbo V6 engine is rumored to soon be available on the next-generation Lexus IS-F. However, this has yet to be confirmed. A Lexus representative told Autoblog that there are clear advantages in making the switch. It’s currently being powered by a 5.0-liter V8 with an output of 416-hp and 371 lb-ft of torque from a large displacement V8 engine. Making the switch to a smaller V6 engine, probably a variant of the brand’s 3.5-liter unit, and installing turbochargers may easily offer the same horsepower figures, with the additional benefit of more torque. Furthermore, the smaller forced-induction engine doesn’t just decrease the overall vehicle weight, but should cut weight over the front axle, helping to boost weight balance. Lastly, a turbocharged setup will enable the car to boost fuel economy significantly by up to 20%. When it comes to internal combustion engine technology, Lexus and its parent Toyota have been falling behind rather than focusing on advancing its hybrid powertrains.
