Next-generation Maserati Quattroporte will not get any bigger

It’s not a secret anymore that Maserati is working on the next Quattroporte, but today Fiat design boss Lorenzo Ramaciotti released some details regarding the new car. According to Ramaciotti, the next-generation Maserati Quattroporte will not get any bigger, despite the fact that the competition is creating bigger cars. “Even though our rivals – such as the new Audi A8 – are getting longer, we have to keep it as a sporty alternative,” said Lorenzo Ramaciotti.
Furthermore, the new Quattroporte will keep its current grille, which is a symbol of Maserati. According to Harald Wester, Maserati’s CEO, the new car will be offered with four-wheel drive, but will also get greener with the help of stop-start technology.
Set to make its debut in 2012, the new Maserati Quattroporte will also be lighter than the current model, and the manufacturer promises that it will be with 15 percent lighter than the current model. As expected, fuel consumption will also be improved by around 25 percent, while the CO2 emissions will drop significantly. Regarding the engines, the new sports saloon is expected to receive downsized V6 and V8 engines, which will use an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. [via autocar]
