Next-generation Mazda RX-8 will be inspired by the Shinari Concept

Mazda Shinari Concept

According to the latest reports from Japan’s Best Car magazine, it appears that the new-generation Mazda RX-8 will be inspired by the Shinari Concept, unveiled last month. In other words, the Shinari will be the future of Mazda sports cars. For those who don’t know, the Shinari Concept is described by Mazda using the word Kodo, Japanese for soul of motion. This concept was created by three Mazda studios found in the U.S., Japan and Germany. Regarding the upcoming RX8, this car is expected to use a more advanced version of the 1.3-liter rotary engine found on the current version.

The current RX-8 carries 231 hp (211 Nm) and can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.4 seconds while the top speed achieved is 234 km/h (145 mph). The new RX-8 is expected to receive the same "freestyle" centre-opening door system found on the current model, which makes getting into and out of the back seats of Mazda's sporty coupe easy.

And just like the current model, the next-generation will be a front-midship engine, rear-wheel drive coupe delivering an ideal 50/50 weight distribution between the front and rear axles for fantastic handling characteristics. More details to be revealed!
