Next-generation Seat Exeo will be less reliant on VW technology

Instead of relying on Volkswagen Group technology, Seat's next-generation Exeo will be more of a bespoke Seat product, according to a company source. Seat had sought to get a saloon car to market quickly under a former president, who used to work for Audi, Erich Schmitt. This is how the current Exeo, which is basically a previous-generation Audi A4, was created. The source, who declined to be named, said that the Seat will eventually replace the Exeo with a car that has more in common with a bespoke Seat product. The source explains that the current Exeo fulfilled its desire to get a saloon to market very quickly.
The company needed to be in that segment at the time and the old A4 was the best bet. The replacement though would be very much a Seat product. No time frame was given on when to expect the launch for the next Exeo. What has been confirmed though is that the car will be produced at its Martorell facility in Spain. Reportedly, Seat doesn´t plan on repeating what it did with the Exeo on other models. It's inevitable then that the next Exeo will be compared to the current-generation Skoda Superb. The original Superb actually borrowed heavily from the Volkswagen Passat, but the current model is much more of a bespoke Skoda product.
