In an interview earlier this month, Volkswagen chief of development Ulrcih Hackneburg told the press at the Detroit Auto Show that there is a great likelihood for greater demands for small cars in the U.S. and that VW is keen on taking advantage of it. In keeping with this pronoucements the Mark VI Golf will reach US markets in September this year, however, there is a sign that VW will be exporting a much smaller model. The next-generation compact hatch VW Polo may be that car. The Polo is positioned under the Golf and has been reported to debut at the Geneva Motor Show this March and is set to be at the European dealers by the end of the year. It will come around 2011 If it gets a green light for the US. Considering logistics and finances VW is reportedly planning to have the American version of the Polo built in their Peublo, Mexico plant.
