NHTSA investigating Mercedes-Benz E-Class for faulty air bags

NHTSA announced that it is investigating Daimler's Mercedes-Benz E-Class models because the airbags may not deploy properly in crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about 100,000 cars from the 2005 and 2006 model-years may be affected and so far NHTSA received only four complaints about failures in the module-wiring harness of the steering column. Apparently, this issue affects the airbags and they fail to inflate in frontal crases. Mercedes-Benz declined to make any comments regarding this problem! [via autonews - sub. required]
