Nick Reilly is the new head of GM’s Opel/ Vauxhall unit

On top of being the new head of General Motors Co.'s Opel/Vauxhall unit, Nick Reilly will also have the responsibility of overseeing the Chevrolet brand in Europe. In a conference call over the weekend, Reilly had said that he will be the CEO of Opel as well as the head of Chevrolet's sales and distribution activities in Europe. Reilly will be based at Opel's headquarters in Ruesselsheim, near Frankfurt, but Chevrolet will continue to be run from Zurich, Switzerland.
Reilly, who was just named GM Europe president last Friday, said Chevrolet Europe president Wayne Brannon will report to him. Officially, Reilly had served as head of GM's international operational based in Shanghai until Friday but ever since former GM Europe President Carl-Peter Forster quit last month, he had been leading GM's restructuring of Opel on an interim basis. Readers might be confused about the appointment since previously, it was announced that GM is looking for an external candidate to head Opel.
Reilly said though that it was GM Chairman Ed Whitacre himself who asked him to take on the role of GM Europe president. When asked about the future role of Opel managing director Hans Demant, Reilly declined to react and only said that he will be revealing his European management team within the next several days.
