Nissan bringing small commercial vehicles in U.S.

Beginning 2010, Nissan will be putting a full-court press on the small commercial vehicle market, said Joe Castelli, Nissan North America's vice president for light commercial vehicles and fleet. Particularly, the car manufacturer will go for the smaller end of the market where the Ford E-Series vans and Super Duty trucks currently lead. Beginning with the lately revealed NV2500 commercial van, Nissan will expand out to incorporate at least one smaller urban transit vehicle, which will most probably get inspiration from the NV200 concept and compete with Ford's forthcoming Transit Connect. It might be patterned on identical platform as the forthcoming Cube set to hit U.S. market next year. An estimated one-third of Nissan's U.S. dealerships are intending to carry the new range of vehicles. It would be unreasonable to enter this market without a strong supply of diesel units, so Nissan is thought to have contracted with Cummins for diesel engines, an expedient collaboration now that the Japanese car manufacturer has united itself with Dodge.
