If you've been waiting to get your own Nissan Leaf Electric Vehicle, you'll be glad to know that orders will be taken by Nissan North America starting next spring. Nissan expects to have 20,000 units pre-sold by the time the model reaches U.S. showrooms in the third quarter. Carlos Tavares, Nissan's chairman for the Americas, spoke to Nashville business executives, saying that Nissan expects to make the city a key launch market for the mass-production five-passenger electric vehicle. Nissan has the support of local utilities to prepare the recharging network in time for the 2010 launch. Just outside Nashville in Franklin, Tenn. is where Nissan's North American sales and marketing headquarters is located. A partnership between Nissan and the state of Tennessee and the Tennessee Valley Authority was entered to build a recharging grid that links Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tenn. Similar partnerships have been created in other markets, including San Diego, Phoenix and Seattle.
