Initially offered for sale in Japan in December 2007, the Nissan GT-R has received several minor enhancements to get it to the present 2010 model year Series II specs. Simultaneously, the company also premiered the lighter and stiffer SpecV model, which also caused a whole series of new improvements for the supercar. Included in the upgrades to the regular GT-R are suspension adjustments to enhance road handling and driver feedback, a 5hp (4kW) boost in potency, and revisions to the gearbox control software to improve acceleration and consistency.
Nissan has made the electronic upgrades available to customers without additional cost, but currently the firm is also making some of the mechanical enhancements as a retrofit upgrade. Presently though, the upgrades are only available in Japan and customers will have to pay about $5,140 to $5,540 for the various packs. Included in the upgrade are Billstein shocks for front and rear, new springs, a transverse link bush, and new mounts for both the powerplant and new transmission.
For the very first time, Nissan will offer its local customers the chance to fit some SpecV parts on the standard model GT-R, including the six-spoke 20-inch Rays forged aluminum wheels, Recaro carbon fiber sports bucket, titanium exhaust system and bespoke reservoir tank. It was not revealed if these upgrades will be offered outside Japan but some resellers are already getting many of the parts to other parts of the world.
