Nissan introduces new Dual Injector System

Nissan Dual Injector System

In early 2010, Nissan will be installing a new Dual Injector System to its small-displacement, gasoline/petrol engines that will raise fuel economy by up to 4%. The injector system works by channeling fuel to two intake ports, instead of only one per cylinder. Combustion is made more efficient by improving vaporization and reducing the diameter of the fuel droplets by about 60%. The Japanese automaker said that it will adopt this instead of the direct-injection system which would be difficult to apply to smaller power plants and which uses high-pressure pumps to inject fuel into a cylinder at elevated pressure levels to improve combustion. Nissan claims further that the twin injector system is simpler and takes up less space. It also features continuous valve timing control in the exhaust to reduce pump losses and improve heat efficiency.
