From Tokyo, Nissan Motor Co. has moved to its new global headquarters in Yokohama, where it was founded in 1933. Nissan had been headquartered in Ginza, Tokyo, for 41 years. The move to Yokohama brings its management closer to its hub of facilities in Kanagawa prefecture. Kanagawa also hosts Nissan's global Research and Development center, its design studio, a proving ground, a product engineering center and several factories. During the opening ceremony last August 2, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said, "We celebrate today the start of a new chapter of our company's life." Also on that day, Nissan unveiled the company's new Leaf electric vehicle. About 2,800 employees will be accommodated at the 22-story, glass high-rise, which also boasts of a 4,000 square-meter gallery with space to showcase 30 vehicles. The building will serve as the location of Nissan's finance, sales and marketing, product planning, corporate planning and light commercial vehicles units.
