Lucas Ordonez, a 25-year-old gamer, is proof that being good at it does lead somewhere. For almost three years, Nissan, together with Sony's PlayStation, have been hosting thePlayStation GT Academy competition, a contest for Gran Turismo gamers. They set out to prove that gaming can be a useful teaching tool. Ordonez won the inaugural GT Academy of 2008. Since winning, Ordonez has received training both in game and at special courses such as the five-day training camp at UK's Silverstone circuit.

This year, he will be going to Le Mans, where Nissan sent him to join the Signatech Nissan team for the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. He will be behind the wheel of the Nissan-powered LMP2 car.

Darren Cox, Nissan Europe's marketing manager Crossover and Sports Cars, said that they started GT Academy in search of new talent but they didn’t think that it would develop into a driver development program that would lead to the “world's greatest race.”
