Nissan topped General Motors in sales in Mexico last year

For 2009 sales in Mexico, Nissan Motor Co. comes out to be the winner as it has overtaken General Motors Co. for the first time since 1995.
While Nissan's light-vehicle sales fell 26% in 2009 to 156,186, GM's sales dropped by 35% to 138,482. Mexico's total sales of new light-vehicles fell 26% to 754,930 in 2009.
In 2008, GM's lead narrowed to only 356 vehicles. The other carmakers' Mexican-sales rankings were unchanged for 2009 from 2008.
Coming in third place is Volkswagen AG -- sales slipped 14% to 117,969. Ford Motor Co. was No. 4 -- sales fell 30% to 92,003. Fifth is Chrysler with a 29% drop in sales to 82,337.
Last December, Mexico's sales fell 9% to 91,962 -- the first single-digit decline since a 5% drop in December 2008.
From January to October 2009, Mexico's sales fell from 19% to 38%, then declined 17% in November. [via autonews - sub. required]
