Nissan’s European design chief Alfonso Albaisa will succeed Bruce Campbell

With the impending retirement of Nissan's US design chief Bruce Campbell, the carmaker has announced that Nissan's European design chief Alfonso Albaisa will step into the role. Meanwhile, Victor Nacif, who has been in charge of business operations for Nissan's US design unit, will take over Albaisa's position as head of Nissan's European design unit. This will mark Albaisa's second stint in the US as he takes over Nacif's present responsibilities. Albaisa, an American-Cuban, graduated from the Pratt Institute in New York and was immediately snatched up by Nissan Design America in 1988. Albaisa is well-known for having worked on the Altima, the Maxima and the Rogue. In 2007, Albaisa took over Nissan Design Europe in 2007. Campbell will retire at the end of March after having joined Nissan in 1980. The list of vehicles he had worked on is impressive. Campbell led the creation of designs for the "Hardbody" pickup, the Pulsar NX, the Maxima and Xterra production vehicles, and the Gobi small truck and the Cocoon six-passenger car concepts as well as the current 370Z, Maxima and Rouge. Campbell became in charge of Nissan Design America in October 2004.
