2010 Chevrolet Grand Sport
One of the most talked about nicknames in Corvette‚ famous racing tradition is the Grand Sport. During the 12th annual C5/C6 Corvette Birthday celebration at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Chevrolet announced that it is coming back to the lineup with the latest 2010 Corvette Grand Sport version. The latest Grand Sport model merges the 'Vette LS3-based powertrain with special, broad-body styling and a racing-designed suspension for a unique model that offers a great harmony of road and track performance. It will be available in both coupe and convertible body designs, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed auto transmission.
The rating for the LS3 6.2-liter unit is 430hp (321kW) and 424lb-ft of torque (575Nm) with the regular exhaust system installed. Available also will be a two-mode exhaust system that boost power ratings up to 436hp (325kW) and 428lb-ft (580Nm). It will replace the Z51 package of Corvette pack and provide a greater level of handling performance, with broader wheels and tires, modified shock, stabilizer bar and spring specs; and specific gearing. Cornering capability through the equipment is 1.0g together with a 0.2 second enhancement on its 0-60mph acceleration time compared to the regular LS-3 powered variants.
The Grand Sport, with its special equipment, offers a special combination of performance and features. For instance, its suspension pack comes near to the Z06, but comes with a removable roof on coupes in contrast to the fixed roof of the Z06 and, likewise, the availability of the body style of a convertible. Also offered on the car is the paddle-shift six-speed automatic transmission, with a manual transmission as standard and the only option with the Z06. All the exterior color finishes of the Corvette are available on the Grand Sport, and also offered is the Heritage pack which provides iconic front fender hash marks in four colors, together with two-tone seats with Grand Sport embroidery. Available trim packages for the Grand Sport ready for ordering are: 1LT, 2LT, 3LT and 4LT.
