Official: 2012 Jaguar XF Facelift with 2.2-liter diesel engine coming to New York

Remember when we told you that Jaguar is going to introduce a fuel-efficient 2.2-liter diesel engine on the upcoming 2012 XF Facelift? Well, if you don’t, you should read the article here. As 4WheelsNews said according to its sources (we thank them again with this occasion), Jaguar announced today the introduction of its most efficient engine: a 2.2-liter diesel engine capable to deliver 190 PS and 332 lbs ft of torque, and an impressive fuel consumption of 52.3 mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 149 g/km of CO2. The new four-cylinder engine was mounted in a prototype development vehicle for the first time and features a water-cooled turbocharger with low-friction pistons, new injectors and a new crankshaft.
The new configuration allowed Jaguar engineers to add a new oil pan and new electronic systems affecting the crankshaft to allow the new intelligent Stop-Start system to operate more efficiently. According to the manufacturer, the Intelligent Stop-Start promises to reduce the prolonged time spent in the shutdown and start-up phase usually experienced in such systems. Moreover, the new system is able to restart the engine while it's shifting down from as little as 400 rpm meaning it does not need to come to a stop.
The new engine is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Jaguar says that its engine is capable to push the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 8.5 seconds and to a maximum speed of 140 mph or 225 km/h. The new powertrain will feature in a future XF production car with specifications and an estimated on-sale date being announced at the New York Auto Show.
