Official: Audi developing new A2

As you may know already, Audi is currently building an A2 successor and it seems the vehicle reached the concept car stage. According to Autocar, the vehicle will be recognisable as an A2 but very different from the old model (this is good because the old model was not really a success: "We will not make the same mistake as with the first A2 and do it all by ourselves," said Michael Dick, Audi's member of the board of management for technical development). The new model will also have an electric brother and the German manufacturer plans to release both of them at the same time. "We also want to build an electric version straight away. That has consequences. At the moment you think up a car and make it electric afterwards. With that car [the A2], things go the other way around." said Dick. Also, do not expect the upcoming Audi to be based on the Vw Up platform that is currently under development. According to Mr. Dick, the vehicle will use a group platform of the next generation, fitted between the forthcoming A1 supermini and A3. Regarding the A1, the vehicle will be built, but for the moment the A2 represents Audi's top priority!
