Official: Derek Jenkins is the Design Director of Mazda Design Americas (MDA)

Derek Jenkins, the former Chief of Design for VW Group North America, has been the man behind a number of concept and production vehicles like the Audi A2, A8 and VW Scirocco concept. Before he joined Volkswagen in 2000, he had many and varying design positions at Audi and VW, both in North America and elsewhere. Combined with his wealth of experience from 15 years of successful
designing at both VW and Audi, Jenkins' intimate knowledge and understanding of the market of North America, are going to be a significant advantage for the Mazda Design team. He is expected to revolutionize their Nagare design philosophy from concept to production.
As the new Design Director, he will have about 25 staff members under him who will be working together to push the creative limits by developing forward-looking ideas for the next generation of cars. The team, based in Irvine, has been attributed the Furai, Kabura and Nagare concept vehicles, together with the latest 2009 MAZDA6 and 2010 MAZDA3. Jenkins completed his education at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.
