Official: Mercedes-Benz confirms C-Class U.S. production

By 2014, a portion of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class's allocated production will be moved to its Vance, Alabama plant that will be used to supply local demand. The Bremen plant in Germany will now be where the model's production will be concentrated. Both the board of management and the General Labour Council agreed to this move.
Carmaker Daimler has said that the next generation E-Class and S-Class will continue to be produced at the Sindelfingen factory alongside the SL roadster, which moves from Bremen. An investment in new technologies plus all these activity mean that jobs are secure until at least 2019. To offset the loss of the C-Class, about 2,000 new jobs will be created at Sindelfingen.
Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said that the company has "set the course for the future of key models." Zetsche enumerated its actions that include the reorganization of C-Class production as of 2014 and the production commitment for the E-Class and the S-Class. Zetsche has said that the long-term strategic planning will provide more growth opportunities and will contribute much to raising its competitiveness. He said that this is the "best way" to protect jobs in Germany over the long term.
