In an official press release, MINI said today that it has completed shakedown phase of their new Countryman World Rally Car. The shakedown was successfully completed at Prodrive's private proving ground in Warwickshire. According to MINI, the initial part of the testing and development program involved the team driving the car over four days, primarily on tarmac but also on other roads including several kilometres on loose surfaces and Prodrive's low grip facility. The Countryman World Rally Car is now preparing for a road in Portugal in order to be tested on gravel for a week. The new vehicle is running with an interim body and aero package. The design of the final World Rally Car bodywork is underway. "As with any totally new car, it is vital to take time to ensure all the systems are working as intended before embarking on a week long gravel test," said David Lapworth, Prodrive technical director.
