Mitsubishi Evolution X FQ400

The wraps of the latest FQ-400 intended for the markets of the United Kingdom was removed today by Mitsubishi. It can manage a sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds putting it on the level of the likes of the Nissan GT-R and Lamborghini Gallardo among others including those that have a sticker price as much as ten time that of the improved Evo X. This is where the 2009 Evolution X gets its appeal. For its smaller sticker price one gets a four-door utility vehicle equipped with the performance of a supercar. The FQ-330 SST version was launched just last week with a bit less lavishness. Considered as the fastest and most extreme variant of Mitsubishi's motorsport-inspired vehicle, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 comes with 403hp and 387ft-lb of top torque generated by its high-tech, lightweight aluminum 2.0 liter turbocharged Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) gasoline powerplant.

These performance numbers enables the car to sprint from standstill to 62mph (100km/h) in just 3.8 seconds to reach a maximum speed of 155mph which is electronically limited. With the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) FWD system which channels power to the wheels that most need it, aids the car's tremendous acceleration. The wider track and lowered suspension that comes with Eibach springs with Bilstein Shock Absorbers have improved the cornering ability of the FQ-400 over its FQ sibling. For better road grip Toyo Proxes R1R tires were used wrapped around lightweight 18 inch, nine spoke alloy wheels.

To accommodate such speed and performance the FQ-400 comes with a modified braking system that utilizes aerospace quality aluminum alloys and floating sealed discs with high performance brake pads. The base model had to be extensively modified due to the fact that great power has been squeezed out of its small 2.0 liter power unit. The aluminum cylinder head received motorsport spec high-flow fuel injectors and a new hybrid turbocharger. Featured in the higher spec turbocharger are low-friction bearing, a high temperature turbine and reinforced thrust bearing for heightened response and lowered turbo lag. An improved intercooler brings cooled air to the turbocharger thereby enhancing performance and efficiency, and exhaust gases are expelled from the powerplant through 3 inch high flow stainless steel pipes and catalytic converter prior to being expelled through the exhaust which is located at the center. Besides being a street rally car, the FQ-400 is likewise a fully equipped daily driver and comes equipped with Bluetooth, a 30GB multimedia hard drive, DVD satellite navigation, automatic lights and windshield wipers, and a skew of other technologies and elements of comfort. With sales beginning his June all over the UK, pricing for the company's top-of-the-line Evo begins at 49,999 pounds.
