It is official! The new Mitsubishi iMiev EV (electric vehicle) will go into production, said the man responsible to the development of the vehicle, Mr. Harald Rataiski! The manufacturer is planning to build 2,000 units in the first year and hopes to double this number in the second year of production. The iMiev which is 3.40m long and has a 250 liters luggage space carries
a 16-kilowatthour lithium-ion battery made of 88 cells. Helped by this battery, the 1,100 kg car has a top speed of 130 km/h and a range of 140 km, enough we would say for a crowded town.
After using it, the iMiev has to be plugged for almost 7 hours in order to be fully charged. Mitsubishi is also planning a sport variant of this vehicle but also a SUV. According to the manufacturer the new vehicle will make its European debut next year, in 2010!
