All we know for sure is that Porsche will make an electric sports car but the carmaker has not confirmed whether a rumor that it will be version of the 911 is true. At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche's new president and CEO, Michael Macht, did not reveal which model it would be. Macht said however, that the electric sports car has to meet the high performance standards of the Porsche brand. Given the impressive statistics of the SLS eDrive, an electric Porsche should accomplish that. Macht also said that the company is aiming for its electric vehicle to offer a range similar to that of current sports cars. Currently, battery technology doesn't yet meet Porsche's strict requirements but that its engineers are already working hard on this challenge. Macht said that within a few years from today, Porsche will take the first step to build an electric car by introducing a Cayenne and Panamera hybrid. If you remember, it was Ferdinand Porsche who built the first fully functioning hybrid car 109 years ago. Macht was unable to give a production date but he didn't rule out the possibility of a 911 hybrid as a stopgap solution.
