Michael Schumacher Mercedes-BenzIt can now be stated without any doubt that Michael Schumacher will return to Formula One racing for Mercedes-Benz' new works team in F1, Mercedes GP. This news was announced at a press conference confirming that Schumacher has inked a 3-year deal with Mercedes GP for the 2010 season. The 7-time world champion will join Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes GP lineup from as early as January. Before the official start of the winter testing, Schumacher will undergo a testing session to drive the Brawn GP's car last year, the BGP 001. At the end of 2006, Schumacher bid goodbye to F1 racing after he had lost out to Fernando Alonso in the title chase. However, since then, he hasn’t been far away and has served as ambassador for the Ferrari organization, while also taking on an advisory role within the team. Last season, he was slated to make a comeback in Formula One in order to replace Felipe Massa, who was injured from an accident in the Hungarian Grand Prix. But Schumacher failed to return then due to neck pain he was experiencing that had stemmed from a superbike accident in February. [via bbc]
