Bidding ends on February 23 for one of the 45 limited edition Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Mustangs. So far, the bidding is stuck at $80,000 but the car has been estimated to fetch at least $120,000. The highest bidder will also get the chance to have lunch with the “Father of the Mustang” in Los Angeles. In fact, the car was donated by Lee Iacocca himself. The anniversary model is the result of the collaboration between Iacocca, designer Michael Leone, Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters and Design Company. All of the 45 limited edition Mustangs are custom-built by the team at Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, who made use of composite construction laminates, a reinforced material that is mainly used in aerospace design.
The special edition is available in two powerplant options sourced from the same engine: a normally-aspirated 4.6l Ford V8. The unit develops either 320 hp (for the Ford Racing Cold Air) or 400 hp (for the Ford Racing Supercharger). Meanwhile, both are partnered to a 5-speed stick shift transmission but an automatic version is also available.
The vehicle is based on a 2009 Mustang GT platform. The team upgraded the suspension with a Ford Racing Performance Handling Package and the wheel shave had been custom made and covered in Goodyear Eagle RS-A performance tires. For the interior, the model had been fitted with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with "I" logos, Diamond Design leather seats with embroidery stitching, an Iacocca signature dash plaque with serial number, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with “I” badge and Iacocca-badged aluminum sill plates.
