Opel expects to increase new-car sales by 100,000 next year

Opel/Vauxhall is forecasting an increase in new-vehicle sales by 100,000 in 2012, the German business magazine Manager Magazin reported, citing sources. This subsidiary of General Motors Co. also intends to obtain a 5 percent return on sales by 2016, the magazine further stated, citing company sources. In 2010, the GM unit sold 1.19 million vehicles.
For this year, Opel estimated sales of 1.3 million. Karl-Friedrich Stracke, chief executive officer at Opel, has forecasted that the brand will break even this year, about a year earlier than expected.
The CEO is targeting Opel sales outside Europe from 60,000 to 150,000 within three years, the magazine report mentioned. Opel has yet to make an official statement regarding the reports.
