Opel range updated for 2011, gets greener

Opel has made numerous improvements for its Model Year 2011 product range, including those for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In particular, Opel will introduce the Start/Stop technology and the Insignia lineup now combines diesel power with Opel’s Adaptive 4x4 system. The Agila range is equipped with a 1.2-liter ecoFLEX gasoline engine, which delivers 94hp and emits 116 g CO2 with Start/Stop technology while returning 47 mpg (5 l/100km). Available as an option on the Corsa 1.3 CDTI with 75 hp and the Corsa Van is the Start/Stop technology. In addition, the Corsa OPC, which is powered by the 192hp 1.6 turbo engine, offers a 392 mpg (0.6 l/100km) reduction in fuel consumption that leads to a 9.5% cut in CO2 emissions. The second generation Meriva is offered with three greener diesel engines.
Opel MovanoThe new 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX variant offers an 11.2% drop in emissions (119 g/km CO2) when compared to its predecessor. Two more powerful versions of the 1.7 CDTI engine are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, resulting to an average combined fuel consumption of 45 mpg (5.2 l/100km). A 120hp variant of the 1.4-liter turbo engine will be added to the Astra hatchback lineup.
This variant will be fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, which returns 40 mpg (5.9 l/100km) and emits only 138 g/km CO2. The 110hp and 125 hp versions of the 1.7 CDTI engine have a fuel consumption of 52 mpg (4.5 l/100km) and emit 119 g/km CO2. Several technical improvements were also applied on the ecoFLEX Insignia models -- the sedan, hatchback and Sports Tourer station wagon. The latest Opel Insignia ecoFLEX sedan variants get a 2.0 CDTI engine, which delivers 130 hp or 160 hp but uses up only 48 mpg (4.9 l/100km) of fuel, while emitting 129 g/km CO2. The Sports Tourer offers 46 mpg (5.1 l/100km) and 134 g/km. The Opel Vivaro range is claimed to have a combined fuel consumption range between 7.5 and 30 mpg (7.8 l/100 km). The Combi ecoFLEX variant consumes only 32 mpg (7.4 l/100 km).
