General Motors' loss could be Jaguar Land Rover's gain as it's been reported that outgoing GM Europe chief Carl-Peter Forster could soon be heading to Tata-owned JLR within the next few months, according to London's Sunday Times. Reportedly, it is likely that Forster will be appointed to a senior role at Tata Motors, owner of Jaguar Land Rover, and will be taking charge of the group's British operations.
Citing senior sources in Frankfurt and Detroit, the report said that Forster was sounded out about the job earlier in the year. Forster had been openly supporting the Magna bid for the Opel segment and when that fell through, ties with GM became strained.
Forster had been responsible for leading GM Europe through its negotiations with the German government and prospective buyer Magna. It was speculated that if the Magna-Opel deal had taken place that Forster would be running an independent Opel under Magna. The failed deal had sparked outrage in Germany. Forster's leaving would mark the first high-profile manager exit. The Tata Group has not commented on these reports. [via just-auto]
