Paris may ban SUVs in an attempt to curb pollution

If you are a fan of SUVs then Paris is not the town you’d like to live as the officials are planning to test restrictions on gas-guzzling vehicles, which includes sport utility vehicles, as part of its plan of attempts to curb pollution. Denis Baupin, an environmental official in the mayor's office, said that the targeted vehicles include old diesel cars and sport utility vehicles.

"I'm sorry, but having a sport utility vehicle in a city makes no sense," said Baupin. Besides Paris, other French cities such as Lyon, Grenoble and Aix-en-Provence are also planning to try restrictions on gas-guzzlers in late 2011 or 2012. Furthermore, other European cities like London and Berlin already have low emissions zones, which means that some vehicles are not allowed there. [via freep]
