Bentley introduced the 2011 Continental GT at the 2010 Paris Motor Show (pricing was also released, you can read about it here). Visual and performance changes were made. This car now also boasts of improved comfort and luxury features. The 4-seat coupe has a new headlamp design.
Standout features include the LED daytime running lights, the classic Bentley matrix grille that has been minimally redesigned, 'floating' LED laps at the rear, and elliptical exhaust pipes.
A set of 20-inch alloy wheels are offered as standard but there’s an option to upgrade to 21-inch designs.
Three wheel styles are available: a 20-inch five-spoke version and two 21-inch Elegant and split-rim Sports variations, which are offered in different chromed and painted finishes. During the launch, the new Continental GT will get a tweaked 6.0-litre W12 engine with FlexFuel capability, capable of producing no less than 575 hp and 700 Nm of torque by making use of the new Quickshift transmission.
The car is enabled to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds, while its top speed is claimed to be 198 mph (308 km/h). Bentley will offer a new 4.0-litre V8 unit option from late 2011.
For its interior, the 2011 Continental GT gets a redesigned dashboard and instrument panel, ‘cobra’-design seats, a new touchscreen, 30GB infotainment system, audio systems feature the latest wide frequency Balance Mode Radiator speakers as standard. It also will feature an 11-speaker Naim system with Dirac Dimensions digital signal processing DSP.
Two new and improved car models from Bentley make their public debut at the Auto China: the Bentley Continental GT V8 models offered under the flagship 6-liter, 12-cylinder engine, Continental GT and GTC.
With these brand new models falling under the brand’s Continental GT range, Bentley continues to excite customers with vehicles combining the silken refinement and ultimate power of the twin-turbocharged W12 Continental engine that, in its most potent form, delivers an astonishing 631bhp (640PS).
Both new models feature a state-of-the-art, all-wheel drive system integrating an advanced Torsen differential and a 40:60 rear biased power split. This ensures a safe yet dynamic sports car handling in all possible road conditions.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, commenting on the launch of the new Bentley Continental GT V8 models, said that a “completely new driving experience” is what raises the appeal of the newest lineup of Continentals, particularly with its offering of a fresh 4.0 litre V8 engine. He also said that this engine will provide all the “exhilarating” drama, power, and performance expected from a Bentley powertrain but it will nevertheless feature innovations that deliver outstanding emissions and fuel economy ratings.
Since the launch of the original GT in 2003, the W12-engined Continental range has time and time again, shown feats of strength, with over 50,000 sales worldwide, making Bentley's factory in Crewe, England, the largest producer of 12-cylinder engines in the world. The W12 story remains the ultimate expression of Bentley's engineering capacity and strength.
