Next to the XL Sport, Volkswagen brought at the 2014 Paris Motor Show the all-new Passat (B8) GTE a.k.a. the plug-in hybrid version of the all-new Passat. This new model is powered by a 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine that pumps out 156 hp (115 kW) at 5,000 rpm, combined with an electric motor that develops 85 kW or 115 hp.
The total output delivered by the hybrid system is 218 hp (160 kW) and 400 Nm of torque, which is enough to push the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 8.0 seconds, while top speed is 136 mph or 219 km/h.
Using just the electric motor and the energy stored in the lithium-ion battery, the Passat GTE offers a range of up to 31 miles or 50 km at speeds of up to 80 mph or almost 130 km/h. With a full 50-liter fuel tank and a fully charged battery, the Passat GTE offers a range of over 620 miles or almost 1,000 km.
According to Volkswagen, the Passat GTE has a fuel consumption of just 1.7 l/100 km and 13.0 kWh/100 km, with CO2 emissions lower than 45 g/km.
When it comes to design, the Passat GTE is easily distinguished thanks to a chromed radiator grille unit with additional blue line, 17-inch Astana alloy wheels and C-shaped LED daytime running lights.
The interior features a instrument cluster with power meter for the plug-in hybrid drive, an innovative Active Info Display, blue ambient lightning, a multifunction steering wheel wrapped in leather with blue decorative stitching, GTE specific gear knob with blue stitching, seat wrapped in Sevilla cloth with blue basic structure as well as “Waves” design (aluminum look) and “Piano Black” (high-gloss black) enhancements.
