Production version of Mastretta MXT coming to the 2010 Paris Motor Show

Article by Christian Andrei, on September 7, 2010

Visitors at the upcoming Paris Motor Show will be able to view firsthand the production version of Mastretta’s MXT. The Mexican sports car firm said that the initial plan was for this sports car to start selling last year after the launching of the original concept in 2007. However, the launch has been delayed into 2011.

Mastretta considers the UK to be a key market for the MXT, which is considered by many to be the counterpart to the Lotus Elise in Mexico. The company anticipates sales of about 150 cars annually.

About 70% of the production will be available in the US and Europe. The pre-production prototype had a Volkswagen TFSI engine but the production car is likely to be powered by a turbocharged Ford Duratec motor, which delivers 238bhp.

The car is believed to weigh 900kg, which is comparable with the Elise. The MXT has composite body and is equipped with an aluminum-bonded chassis and a mid-mounted powertrain.

"We start our official communications with your media sharing some news related to the brand and the upcoming unveiling of the MXT in its production version. On the occasion of the 2010 Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris, France, next October, the production version of the Mastretta MXT will make its world debut in preparation for its introduction in the mexican and international markets." said Mastretta in the official statement.
