Vauxhall to unveil Adam at Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris in September

Article by Anita Panait, on August 15, 2012

Vauxhall will be launching its all-new ADAM vehicle at the “Mondial de l’Automobile,” to be held in Paris from September 27 to October 14, 2012. Considered as fashionable and stylish, ADAM will be unveiled in the most perfect place to be, Paris – the fashion capital of the world. The event is also perfect for ADAM, as over 1.5 million people are expected to visit “Mondial de l’Automobile,” considered as world’s most popular motor show and the perfect setting for the fashionable newcomer.

Vauxhall’s place at the motor show could be found at Hall 5.2 stand 501, where visitors are treated to a remarkable display of ADAM in different styling combinations. Visitors could also use the interactive stations on the stand to create their very own ADAM.

The new model is based around the three trim levels: JAM (fashionable/colorful), GLAM (elegant/sophisticated) and SLAM (racy/sporty). Through the interactive stations, visitors could explore how to personalise their own ADAM according to their taste, at the touch of a button.

While the Vauxhall ADAM brought new innovations in car design, it also tops its class in terms of technology, providing features typically offered only in higher-end cars.

For instance, ADAM is offering its top-of-the-range ‘My Media’ infotainment system, which integrates the owner’s smartphone with the car, effectively allowing internet-based applications to be accessed from the front-mounted touch screen. My Media supports both android and Apple iOS units.

Customers could order an ADAM powered by one of the three efficient ecoFLEX four-cylinder petrol engines: a 1.2-litre 70PS, a 1.4-litre 87PS or 1.4-litre 100PS. All engines are available with optional Start/Stop technology, with power transmitted to wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The ADAM is set to arrive in the United Kingdom in early 2013.

It was back in 2008 when Open began to reshape its model range. This started with the Insignia going all the way to the high-volume models. Currently, the brand is launching models that either join new market segments or start their very own class. This growth program, which is expected to extend further the brand’s portfolio are now on the third wave. Models under this phase include the fashionable small car known as the Adam and the small SUV dubbed the Mokka.

There is also the Ampera, which is an electric vehicle that comes with a range extender. Future models include the mid-size convertible Cascada. Specifically though, Opel plans to strengthen its role when it comes to the A-segment and B-segment. This is where the Adam enters the picture. With overall length of 3.70 meters, the Adam joins Opel’s other offerings for these two segments.

These are the Agila (3.74 meters long), Corsa (4.00 meters long), Mokka SUV (4.82 meters long), and the Meriva (4.29 meters long). In addition to the Adam, the introduction of the five-door Agila completes the brand’s A-segment offering. Unlike the Agila, which comes with its own practical strengths and functionality on a different level, the customization potential in the Adam is truly unmatched.

Further, it is fitted with clearly superior technology and has a muscular design. Opel revealed though that the Adam is not just about rehashing well-known recipes. According to Dr. Thomas Sedran, the Adam contains the core values of customization, imagination, innovation, and of course, quality. A number of automakers in the same segment as the Adam generally go for the retro-design route.

However, with this model, Sedran added, Opel is showing that retro is not necessarily a rule that needs to be followed. Indeed, the combination of almost unlimited ways to customize the Adam and a fashion-conscious and more contemporary look truly sets it apart from the others. Further, Adam is also showing customers qualities that are typically experienced on premium models belonging to upper-class models.

These include the cockpit’s high-quality execution and the various technologies that bring the fun factor, comfort, and safety to a whole new level. Despite all versions of the Adam fitted with high quality equipment as standard, Opel made sure that this vehicle would continue to be affordable.
