Peugeot 407 receives 1.6-liter diesel powerplant
The French carmaker Peugeot is moving ahead with its plan to equip the 407 with a 1.6-liter diesel powerplant. The fuel consumption of the latest 407, featuring low-resistance tires and a major engine modification, is rated at 4.9 liter/100km (48mpg) of diesel on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions is rated at 129 g/km and maximum power output of 110bhp.
It was announced today by the carmaker that the more potent 2.0-liter HDi FAP powerplant likewise provide economical fuel consumption ratings of 42mpg and low carbon dioxide emissions figure of 150g/km, while power output is pegged at 140bhp max. With the use of an electro-hydraulic power steering system that eases some strain on the engine and which drives the typical hydraulic steering system, the HDi 110 1.6-liter unit gains some advantage in efficiency. The 407 is also offered with a 2.0-liter Bioflex gasoline powerplant.
