Peugeot has laid out a plan to reinvigorate its brand

After the PSA Group has successfully revitalized Citroen, Peugeot believes that it is now its turn and it has laid out a plan to reinvigorate its brand. Under the plan, sales will be raised for Peugeot to take the title of the world's seventh largest car maker by 2015. This goal requires for Peugeot to jump three places from its current 10th place position. To get to this level, Peugeot will launch 14 new models from 2010 to 2012. One of these is a car that will be inspired by the BB1 urban commuter car.
However, Peugeot admits that the production car will not be exactly the same as the concept. Peugeot said the vehicle will still measure under 2.5m long, retain four seats and still be powered by electricity. PSA boss Jean Marc Gales said that it will be different from the concept BB1 but that the company aims to "capture the spirit and make it even better." The Peugeot design will also be redesigned to give it a more modern look and to make it a more desirable range of cars, as its cars adopt the themes seen in the new SR1 Concept.
The first car to be given these design cues is the new 408, which is due to be revealed in China at the end of this month. However, the first car to feature all of the SR1's themes will be the replacement for the 207. Peugeot CEO Jean Marc Gales said that the firm will again be making Peugeots, which provides "driving pleasure and roadholding." Gales declined to confirm whether there was a plan to return to the days of class-leading Peugeots such as the 205 GTi and 405. Furthermore, the firm will launch the Haute Series, a range of more bespoke cars starting off with the RCZ this year. This will be followed by two new models in what Peugeot calls the M2 and B-segments. [via autocar]
