Peugeot’s iconic GTI badge expected to be revived

Peugeot 208 GTi Concept

Peugeot's vehicles have not had much success lately but the company is bent on reviving the brand and establishing its current reinvention. With an intention to focus on building sports coupes, Peugeot dropped the iconic GTI badge last year. Peugeot then embarked on a process to launch the Aston Martin-lookalike SR1 Concept design study. Insiders told Autocar that Peugeot is looking into cutting-edge design and improved driving dynamics.

Eventually, this could lead to the resurrection of the GTI badge for a flagship hot hatch. But the model won't appear for at least another three years. The source also said that the timing has to be right for another GTI model. Currently, the company is working on its next generation of small car platforms but the timeframe on when they'll be launched is undisclosed.

The source added that the company will soon be pushing the new 3008 and 5008 models. Before going back into the hot hatch market, the source said that Peugeout would have to re-establish itself as a brand that made driver's cars. Since the iconic 205 GTI and 306 GTI models in the 80s and 90s, Peugeot's hot hatches have disappointed especially when compared with their original predecessors.
