Pontiac G8 to return as Chevrolet Caprice

Chevrolet Caprice

"Too good to waste," Bob Lutz says of the Pontiac G8 when asked of GM's plans to rebrand it as a Chevrolet Caprice. The Pontiac G8, also known as the American version of the Holden Commodore and the Vauxhall VXR8 in the UK, was believed to be phased out along with the Pontiac brand by the end of 2010. Aussie maker Holden was expecting to export 70,000 VE Commodores a year, in a deal worth €813 million. Lutz, who was newly reinstated as GM vice-chairman, is behind the plan to rebadge the G8 as a Caprice despite CEO Fritz Henderson's initial misgivings. Also in the pipeline are the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe and CTS-V wagon.
