Pontiac Vibe is part of Toyota’s recall of sticking accelerators

The Pontiac Vibe crossover is included in Toyota Motor Corp.'s recall of sticking accelerators. Also included is the Vibe's sister model, the Toyota Matrix. In addition, the latest recall of 2.3 million cars due to a faulty pedal design also includes 2009-10 Pontiac Vibes, according to GM spokesman Alan Adler. GM said that it still doesn´t know exactly how many cars are affected. Adler said that Toyota found out about the recall only seven minutes before the carmaker notified the US government. Adler added that Toyota engineered and built the Vibes, which was built in Fremont, Calif., under a joint venture between GM and Toyota. These cars are badged as Pontiacs but they are included in Toyota's recall. GM pulled out of the joint venture, called New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., as part of its bankruptcy last year. Adler gave assurances that once GM gets more details from Toyota on how many Vibes are in the recall and how to fix them, customers will be notified about fixing the problem at Buick-GMC dealerships. GM is phasing out the Pontiac brand. Adler asserted that GM didn´t manufacture it, but since it sells these cars, it is responsible in making sure that Pontiac customers are taken care of.
