Porsche Boxster Speedster under development

In the 80s and 90s, Porsche came out with the Speedster version of its 911 range which made history. Currently, though, with the Boxster already part of the line-up, creating a Speedster would not be practical. So, it's anybody's guess what the guys over at Porsche are really up to. Spy images acquired show a Boxster-based Speedster, if this is in anyway suggesting what they're up to.
The prototype in the spy shots is covered with a substantial amount of disguise around the deck and roof, but informants have offered that beneath the camouflage, this particular Boxster has a more shapely boot, fitted with Speedster-style moldings funning from a couple of roll hoops at the back of the seats down to the bumper at the back.
A lowered windshield comes with the package, and power under the hood is a 3.4-liter six found in the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 that can produce 299hp. The Boxster with a lower top is expected to be unwrapped this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
