Porsche Cayenne to receive a 4.2-liter V8 TDI diesel engine

2011 Porsche Cayenne Diesel

The much-awaited performance diesel for the Porsche Cayenne has arrived, according to an insider. Back when the first generation of the SUV had come out, many said that the company will launch a performance diesel that would make up for the fact that this oil-burner has a Porsche badge. But no such diesel engine arrived. In fact, all that the second generation of the Cayenne got was a 3.0-liter V6 TDI unit that produces 240 hp and a peak torque of 550 Nm (405 lb-ft). The Porsche insider said that the Cayenne will be powered by the 4.2-liter V8 TDI oil burner from the VW Group. This is slated to make its appearance by the end of 2012 but the exact specs of the engine haven’t been announced yet. That’s because Audi got this engine from the Q7 with the latest facelift. As Porsche has recently revealed the 313 hp BiTDI V6 unit, it would be expected to be seen on Cayenne’s bonnet. However, the diesel V8 is still found under the Touareg’s bonnet, where it boasts an output of 340 hp and a peak torque of 590 lb-ft (800 Nm). It’s expected that when used on the Porsche unit, the figures will be much higher.
