Porsche Cayman Clubsport: first details revealed

Porsche Cayman

Cayman Clubsport which will be on sale in the UK this coming October. This is the first time that Porsche is offering a hardcore variant of the Cayman, which will be able to come up to the demands of track competitions. It is foreseen that Porsche is going to use the prepped up Cayman to establish a new one-make race range. The Porsche Cayman Clubsport comes with a weight-reduction package that includes a stripped down interior, body panels of lightweight material, simplified lighting configurations and forged alloys that removed about 100 kilograms of weight.

Power under the hood is expected to be the latest 320 hp 3.4-liter flat six, currently with direct injection, derived from the Porsche Cayman S. Featured as standard are a 6-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Performance will be a notch better than the Cayman S's 171 mph (275 km/h) and acceleration from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) at 4.9 seconds due to its lower curb weight.

Further modifications consist of a special body package that comes with deeper front and rear bumpers and a fixed rear spoiler to substitute the retractable unit utilized in the standard Cayman. Available to customers are either standard trim or race specific Clubsport. The race spec Clubsport comes with an additional 6-point harness, roll cage and fire extinguisher. Although prices have not yet to been established a $5,400 (€4,250) premium over the $60,000 (€46,700) Cayman S is a possibility.
