Porsche contemplating the use of smaller and supercharged engines

Porsche LogoIt was confirmed by Porsche that it is actively contemplating the use of smaller, supercharged powerplants in its attempt to lower emissions of carbon dioxide in its products. Apparently, the trend is toward smaller cars that utilize smaller engines supercharging and the carmaker declares that it will find its own solution to downsizing. This declaration fuels speculations that the succeeding Boxter and Cayman sports cars, which will become available for sale in 2012, will come with 4-cylinder powerplants in their lineups. The company remains resolute in not including a stop-start system on sports cars of Porsche even though the system is already present in the launching of the Panamera and soon in the Cayenne. It was further revealed by the company that it is on track to meet the EU‚ targets of cutting carbon dioxide emissions in 2015 by 25 percent. With Cayenne diesel in addition to Cayenne and Panamera hybrids the company will certainly come up with the new emissions requirements. [via autocar]
